As recently as two years ago, several cities in the United States and around the world were struggling with adopting LTE, the latest mobile network protocol. I wrote last month about how 5G will bring interactive video experiences and am happy to see that 5G deployment is just around the corner. At current time, we still only see an 80% adoption rate of LTE in the United States. And that rate will probably go down. According to Statista, the rate of adoption of 5G will be quicker than that of LTE.
CNet cites a report from Erricsson that 5G will be adopted by 1.5 billion people, and be available to 40% of the population by 2024. That’s an incredible number, if one considers that LTE adoption took until 217 to become dominant over 4G. This should be interesting.
